The Gooud Family
We can trace the Gooud family back to 19th century
London, where Samuel Gooud married Mary Ann Isaacson about 1830. Details of their marriage
have not been found.but they lived (at least from 1839 to 51) at 8 Capland
Mews, Paddington, not far from Marylebone station and a few blocks from Lord's
Cricket Ground. The family seem to have referred to the area as St John's
Wood and it is quite close to that suburb.
When Samuel died, Mary Ann remarried and they migrated to Australia in
1852 with five of the children and settled at Ryde. A daughter, Mary
Ann, later married Edwin Best and became Gordon's Great Grandmother.
The name Gooud is quite distinctive and it is believed that anyone in
Australia with this surname can trace their ancestry back to this
family.
Sept
2009: Recent research commissioned by Tony Donovan has revealed
earlier members of the Gooud family in Stamford (Lincolnshire /
Northamptonshire). This information is still new and is not yet
in a form suitable to present on this web site. |
