Samuel Gooud married Mary Ann Isaacson (or Jacobson or Waverley according to different records), probably about 1830. Details of their marriage have not been found but they lived (at least from 1839 to 51) at 8 Capland Mews, Paddington, not far from Marylebone station and a few blocks from Lord's Cricket Ground. The family seem to have referred to the area as St John's Wood and it is quite close to that suburb.
The Gooud Family Samuel was born in 1805, but his birthplace is not known. One family story suggests the Goouds were once shopkeepers in Manchester. An Australian death certificate for one of his sons implies a family connection with Stamford. Samuel was a London farrier. Farrier was a common occupation in those days with horse transport at its height.
Mary Ann was born Chatham, Kent, in 1810. Her father's name was given on her (second) marriage certificate as John Isaacson, a carpenter, but no further trace has been found of that family. Samuel and Mary Ann had the following children:
Samuel died on 25 Nov 1849, aged 44 years, of Phthysis Pulmonalis (TB).
- Susan b. 1831, no records after her listing as lace milliner aged 19, in the 1851 census at 8 Capland Mews

Mary Ann married William Baldwin, a widower two years her junior, of 32 Strathmore Terrace, on 22nd April 1850 at Shadwell Mddx. William was also a farrier and may have been in business with Samuel. Mary Ann's parents were both dead by this time. William had previously been married to Mary Ann Lawson.
According to shipping records, William and Mary Ann migrated to Australia in the "Rattler " in 1852 under the Bounty Scheme, arriving 6th Jan 1853. Also on the ship were Eliza Goold (sic), Mary Ann Goold (sic), Samuel, James and Charles (no surnames), with ages matching the above records and "parents on board". The cost of the journey was £7.
Susan and Henry apparently stayed in England, although there is a family story that Henry may have visited Australia later and possibly returned to England. No record of death or marriage has been found for either of them in England up to 1855.
Mary Anne died at Ryde on 25th April 1876. William Baldwin died in 1883 at Louisa Rd, Balmain, aged 71 years. They are both buried at St Anne's Church, Ryde.
