Elizabeth Kerr Gooud (1857 – 1929) married George Robert Hilliard (1849 – 1928) at Leichhardt in 1928. They lived at "Normlenstan", 15 William Edward-st, Longueville. They had seven children:
- Lilian Mary Hilliard b. 1888; died 1968 at Mowll Village, Castle Hill, NSW. unmarried and "the best aunt anyone could have".
- Norman G R Hilliard b. 1891; d. 1909 at Singleton NSW, pneumonia.
- Winifred Mabel Grace Hilliard b.1892. Married Harold Stephen White in 1920. Harold was born in 1891 at Tumut, NSW and died in 1974.
Harold was in the 2/1 Pioneer Battalion of the 1st AIF. He served in Gallipoli, where he was commissioned, then France, then Mesopotamia. Major White was requested by General Birdwood to join the British Army in India where he fought in the Afghan wars on the Khyber Pass. He returned to Australia to marry Winifred and both returned to India. Due to the wife's illness and pregnancy, he resigned his commission and returned to Australia and lived at Neutral Bay. He worked in the Public Service, joining the Militia until 1936. When war broke out he joined the 2nd AIF in 1940 and was with the 2/1st Pioneer Battalion. He was killed at Tobruk in 1941.
Winifred and Harold had two children:
- Norman Harold Stephen White b. 1922 Norman joined the Navy at 13 yrs as Cadet Midshipman at Flinders Naval College. On outbreak of war he saw action aged 16 in the Australia when it attacked the French Vichy Fleet in Dakar Oran. He served in the escort fleet transporting ships to the Middle East. He sat for Sub-Lieutenant examinations in Britain in 1941, during the Blitz. Norman joined the Perth which was sunk in the Battle of the Sunda Straits and he was missing for six months, before reporting as a POW in Java. He returned safely to Australia in 1945. After the War he had several postings to Naval ships, including the Wyatt Earp Expedition to Antarctica, and several Commands of shore bases. He retired as Captain in 1964, in charge of HMAS Penguin, the Naval College at Jervis Bay. He was awarded the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2003.
Norman married Lesley Ann Weedon in 1948. They have three children.
- Shirley Jaqueline White b. 1924. Qualified as a Physiotherapist and practiced until 1994. She married Peter Shaw in 1948.
Peter served in the 2nd AIF in small ships in New Guinea and the Islands. After the war he was manager of several companies before joining the Public Service as Coordinator of the Good Neighbour Movement. In this capacity he had numerous postings and the family lived in Canberra, Tasmania, Germany, and Spain. They returned to Sydney in 1972.
Shirley and Peter have three children.
- Stanley H Hilliard b. 1894; d. 1960. He served overseas in the 1st AIF as Cpl, 8th FAB, and married an English girl. They had four children: Norman, Leonard, Corona and Rita. Rita lived at Cronulla.
- Leonard Charles Hilliard b. 1896. Leonard enlisted 20th March 1916 and was a Lance Corporal, in the 9th Machine Gun Coy. He was Killed in Action in France, 6th Dec 1916).
- Doris M Hilliard b. 1897; d. 1978?. Doris married Philip Augustus Shea in 1919 and they lived in Glen Innes NSW in 1942, later moving to Queensland. There were two children:
- Leonard Felton Shea b. 1920. Leonard served in 2nd AIF as a Flying Officer / Observer on Lancaster bombers. He was discharged from 27 OTU in 1945. He became a teacher and was headmaster of many country schools in Queensland; the last being Home Hill. He married Helena Chandler and they had four children. Helena died in 1990 and Leonard died 1997.
- Joan Felton Shea served as a wireless operator in the WAAF, serving as Aircraftswoman at the Townsville W/T Station. She married Sam Dutton, a Queensland school teacher and headmaster who died in 1983. Four children. Joan spent a lot of time with Elizabeth, her grandmother, when she was young.
- Hazel Hilliard b. 1900 and the youngest in the family. She married John Bruce Burgess and lived at Longueville. John enlisted in the RAAF in 1943 and was discharged as LAC in the Radio Development & Installation Unit at Croydon, NSW. They had three children. Hazel died in 1988.
