Matthew Fullarton Hodge was born at Robe in the South East of South Australia on the 29th May, 1878. He died on the 30th June, 1947.
Matthew married Georgina Hunt Sadlier on the 25th October, 1905 at St. Agnes' Church, Grange. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. T. Blackburn assisted by the Rev. G. Griffiths of Christ Church, Kapunda. Georgina was born in Tasmania on the 2nd February 1880, she died on the 31st May, 1912 at Murray Bridge.
Matthew was an Agricultural Seedsman and started the firm of M.F.Hodge & Sons in Waymouth Street, Adelaide. Graziers would either bring in their seed to be scarified and bought back, or would buy seed to plant. The Company also was involved in Landscape Gardening.
Matthew and Georgina had two sons:
- Robert Raimond Hodge was born in 1906 at Kapunda, SA. He married Mavis Brown and they had three sons. Robert died in 1995.
- James Elliott (Jim) Hodge was born in 1909 at Tintinara, SA. He served as Corporal in the Australian Army. James married Emelie (Micky) McKittrick and they had no children. He was a seed merchant and was Managing Director of M.F. Hodge and Sons. Micky died in 1992 and James Died in 1995.
After the death of Georgina and on the 9th July, 1914, Matthew married again to Lillian Maud Scott, who was born on the 7th March, 1892. The wedding was celebrated in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Tintinara,
Matthew and Lillian had two children-
- Matthew Scott Hodge born at Tintinara on the 6th November, 1915. He married Helen (Margaret) in 1940, at St. Matthew's Church, Marryatville, and they have 5 children. He served in the Australian Army and, in 1942, he joined the Royal Australian Air Force as Flying Officer. Matthew died on the 9th April, 1980.
Matthew was also a Managing Director of his Father's firm, M.F. Hodge & Sons Pty. Ltd.
- Patricia Scott Hodge married twice and has two sons.
