Oscar Aston Evans
He married (1) Amanda Rose Sellhorne about 1917 at Cleve in South Australia. Amanda was a daughter of Johann Heinrich & Matilda Sellhorne nee Standley and was born on the 11th November, 1898 in Cleve. Amanda died of Pulmonary Tuberculosis on the 17th March, 1926, and is buried at the Mitcham Cemetery, with Oscar.
Oscar married his second wife, Monica Margaret Munro(e), on the 19th December 1936 in the Vestry of Queen of Angels Church, Thebarton. Monica divorced Oscar just one month before he died. Oscar died on the 20th November, 1952 in the Narma Private Hospital, South Terrace, Adelaide.
Oscar and Amanda had two children:
- John Oscar born 3rd November, 1919 at Cleve. He later lived at Arno Bay and worked as a Labourer. When he was 21 years he joined the Army (SX11785 Private - 2/48 INF BN). He was killed in action at El Alamain on the 8th November, 1942 and is buried at the Italian Cemetery at Mersa Matruh. He is mentioned in "TOBRUK TO TARAKAN", the story of the 2/48th Bn, AIF, by John G.Glenn
- Mildred Rose (Min) born on the 28th August, 1920 at Adelaide. After her Mother died, Min and brother John were taken in and brought up by their grandmother Evans.
Min married Colin Hamilton Cowell on the 24th December, 1943 at St. Peter's College Chapel, Hackney. They lived at Littlehampton in the Adelaide Hills and later migrated to live in Michigan where their son had previously moved. Colin died in 1998Min and Colin had three children.
