Kathleen May (Kay) had a lot of health problems when young and missed schooling so she was the only one not to go to grammar school. However, she did well – she served an apprenticeship at a local dress shop and became head fashion buyer for several large stores. Later she became a partner in a shop in Oxford (when she shared a house with Lena and Frank) and eventually had her own shop and house in Witney (Oxfordshire) where she did very well.
