The Family of Madge Fleming and Ian Emerton


Madge Elford FLEMING was born 1903 at Inverell to Amy and William Fleming. Amy died when Madge was only two and her father died the following year. Madge was brought up by her aunt and uncle (Sophie and Henry) and known as Madge Folkard). She married Walter Ian Emerton (Ian) in 1929 at Mosman and they have two sons and a daughter.

Ian Emerton was born in 1901, son of Edward Emerton of Lindfield, NSW. He was educated at Burwood High School and entered the Commonwealth Public Service in 1917. He joined the Parliamentary Staff as Accountant Joint House Department in 1927; transferred to the Senate staff in 1931; was Usher of the Black Rod in the Senate from 1942 to 1950; Second Clerk Assistant Senate 1950-54.
